System Compatibility Issues with DesktopDoppler

DTD Personal Edition is designed to work and has been tested with all Windows based operating systems from Windows98 and beyond, Including Windows XP. It has been tested with Pentium Processors as slow as 166Mhz and with AMD K6/K7, and Athlon/Duron processors.

The main requirement for running DTD is a 1024x768 screen resolution at 24 or 32 bit color depth. While DTD will run on 16 bit and 8 bit color depths, its image processing functions and alerting functions may not work, depending on the video card and driver. For best results, always run in 24 or 32 bit color depth. There is a FREE Utility which allows easy switching of screen resolutions called RapidRes, which you can download here.

Also its very important not to be running LARGE SYSTEM FONTS as are selectable from the Windows Display Properties. Large System Fonts will cause the display of DTD to shift in unpredictable ways. If you want larger fonts to make text easier to see, use the Windows Desktop Themes rather than the System font control to get around this problem.

Here's how to turn off large system fonts:

Right click on the desktop.
Left click on the "settings" tab.
Left click on the "advanced" button.
Left click on the down arrow next to the "Font Size" box.
Left click on small fonts. Normal size (96 dpi)
Left click "OK" in the Change system font notification box.
Left click "OK"

If you want to have larger fonts on the desktop then:
Left click on the "appearance" tab.
left click the down arrow next to the "scheme" box.
Select a scheme, IE: Windows Standard (Large).
Click "OK"
Restart the system

Desk Top Doppler should work fine at this point.

DTD also requires that Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later be installed on your PC. You can determine which version of IE you have in the About>Help box. Click here if you need to upgrade your version of Internet Explorer.

And finally, like any graphics intensive program, DTD runs better on a faster PC with more memory, and while it will run on slower Pentium machines like an original Pentium MMX 166, it may run so slow as to be frustrating to you. So choose the PC you run it on for the best speed and memory you can provide.

Accessory Programs for use with DTD

Client Session DisplayAboutTime Atomic Clock Program: For doing comparisons on radar images, its important that your PC has the correct time, otherwise you may not be able to determine if the radar image you are looking at is old or current.

This keeps your PC clock (which are notoriously "drifty") synchronized to the US Atomic clock at NIST. You can download a Freeware program called About Time, which will keep your computer within milliseconds of the correct time automatically and running in "background" mode.

Click to see a LIVE map!Realtime Weather Warnings Program: This program provides realtime color coded warnings, national and state maps, and regional satellite and radar overlays. Plus full text of bulletins. The WARNMAP program is built into DTD as part of its regular distribution, and you can activate it by clicking on the warnings map icon on the upper left of the DTD main screen.

But did you also know that you can have a custom version of this program for your website? We offer two versions, one free, which has limited customization, and one for private branded use, which can include your custom logo or advertising. See an Example
